General

  • Open In Bifold Window/Door Term used to describe pairs of opening panels that move, fold and open towards the inside of the building
  • Open Out Bifold Window/Door Term used to describe pairs of opening panels that move, fold and open towards the outside of the building
  • Head and Sill Top and bottom horizontal frame members which incorporate the bi-fold gear, track and guide rail
  • Jamb Vertical frame members
  • Bifold End Track cap Plastic cover attached to each end of the bi-fold track and guide rail
  • Drainage Means of removing water from the frame sill and panel
  • Over Lite Transom Horizontal frame member that accepts fixed glazing or sashes above a door/window unit and incorporates the rolling or guide track for bi-folding Panels
  • Coupling Bar A profile used to join two or more separate frames together
  • Bifold Stile Vertical panel members where individual panels are hinged together
  • Hinge Stile Vertical panel member on which the frame jamb hinges are attached
  • Strike Stile/Bolt Stile Vertical panel member which opens second when two panels lock together. Strike stile/bolt stile is locked into frame using either flush bolts or a 2 point locking device (uno-lock/twin bolt)
  • Lock Stile Vertical panel member which has a locking device attached to the open and close panel
  • Top and Bottom Rails Horizontal top and bottom panel members
  • Vision Rail The name given to the horizontal panel member separating two or more panes of glass
  • Torsional Block Plastic component inserted into the stile ends to strengthen the connection between the panel stile and top and bottom rails. Also acts as a guide when using flush bolts, 2 point locks and compression 4 point locks
  • Door Hinge Hinge used to hang an aluminium door panel in a frame
  • Bifold Hinge Used to attach two or more folding panels together
  • Bifold Roller Assembly A wheel assembly used to aid the movement of folding sets of panels in one direction along a track, typically 2, 4 or 6 panel combinations (never used in Un-equal panel combinations) can be either top or bottom rolling.
  • Bifold Hinge Roller Assembly A wheel assembly used to aid the movement of un-equal combinations of folding panels in one direction along a track, where the roller also acts as a hinge on typically 3 or 5 panel combinations (Never used on equal panel Combinations) can be either top or bottom rolling
  • Bifold Guide Assembly A guide assembly used to aid in the movement of folding sets of panels in one direction along a track, typically 2, 4 or 6 panel combinations (never used in Un-equal panel combinations) can be either top or bottom guiding.
  • Bifold Hinge/Guide Assembly A Guide assembly used to aid in the movement of un-equal combinations of folding panels in one direction along a track, where the guide also acts as a hinge on typically 3 or 5 panel combinations (Never used on equal panel Combinations) can be either top or bottom guiding
  • Bifold Hinge/Handle A fitting where a pull handle is connected to a hinge for the purposes of closing an outward opening bifold door or window
  • Bifold Handle A fitting used on an inward opening bi-fold door or window for the purposes of Pulling the folding panel junction inwards. Not required if an uno-lock or twin Bolt is fitted
  • Lever Lock Device used for locking and opening/closing an aluminium door panel
  • Compression Lock Door lock, whereby the upward action of the handle engages or disengages The locking bolts into the top and bottom of the frame
  • Flush Bolt Device used to secure pairs of panels from opening in a frame, (can be either recessed or surface mounted)
  • Uno-Lock/Twin Bolt Security device used to secure pairs of panels from opening in a frame where one handle activates both top and bottom bolts simultaneously
  • Striker Plate/Keeper Plastic component used with a flush bolt or twin bolt to provide engagement of the bolt with the frame
  • Heel and Toe Method used to block glass within a panel to stop the panel from moving out of squareness, by using the pane of glass as a bracing element
  • Gusset A Proprietary component made from flat aluminium sheet or plate used to strengthen corner joints of sashes and frames
  • Corner Cleats/Stakes A Proprietary component made from either extruded aluminium angle or molded plastic. Used to strengthen or assist with corner joints in sashes etc
  • Hole Plug/Grommets Used to cover assembly holes in panel stiles
  • Travel Packer Component used to protect the bottom panel rail from damaging the frame sill during transit
  • Fin-seal Synthetic pile with a plastic weather vane running through the centre which acts as a weather seal between the panel and frame
